Would you like to learn to paint with fire? On November 6, 2026, First Friday at 6:00 PM, Pam will demonstrate how to make a finished piece of Encaustic Art. She will prepare a wood substrate to accept molten wax then design an Encaustic Painting through the layering of colored molten wax. The process then moves on to creating a smooth surface and adding techniques like enhancing the painting with a shellac burn.

Encaustic painting is such an exciting medium giving you opportunities to etch in, create texture and give you that luminous glow that only comes from the Encaustic process!

In Pam’s own words:

I first saw an encaustic piece 10 years ago. Loved the smooth texture and the highly pigmented layers. During Covid, after leaving my career, I started learning more about the Encaustic process. I became obsessed and began taking courses that led to workshops. I love the luminosity and texture of the wax. I like that it is an organic process when torched, the paint has a mind of its own and takes me out of the drivers seat. My art is in 3 Galleries with Maine Art Collective, the Dodwell Gallery and I am having a show at the University of New England 11/20/26-1/20/27.

My art is a reflection of my love for extremes and the beauty found in both simplicity and vibrancy. I am drawn to dreamy landscapes and bright florals, capturing the emotion and drama of nature in my work. Through the use of various mediums such as acrylics, pastels, cold wax, oils, and encaustic, I paint in an impressionistic style with a touch of abstract, creating unique pieces that stand out with their use of shellac, drips, splashes, collage, and stencils. My inspiration comes from the world around me, as I observe and immerse myself in the natural beauty of florals, sea scapes, and mountains. Each piece I create is a fusion of my emotions and observations, resulting in art that is both restful and exciting, minimalistic and vibrant.

Pam says, “Join me at 157 Middle Street in the Old Port in Portland Maine for an exciting Encaustic Art Demo! It’s free!”
